Meet our team of Bike Safety Experts

Whether you are new to riding or just want to brush up on your bike skills, Pedal Set Go will provide easy to follow tips and expert advice to help keep you and your bike rolling.

The team has extensive experience teaching Sydneysiders of all ages and abilities how to ride bicycles safely and with confidence. We love the joy, flexibility & convenience that you can only get by riding a bike. Our love has taken us on cycling journeys in America, Europe, Central Asia and across Australia. In fact Jules and Li rode their bikes to the Opera House…from London…on bamboo bikes that they built themselves.

Liane, Eric, Yvonne, Sarah and Justine may be camera shy when it comes to close ups. Check out our social media where we have captured the teams fabulous personalities and skills. We are a team of experienced educators and trainers, sport and recreational riders, commuters, bike tourists,  mechanics, bike builders, and active travel and climate champions. We are professionals with a wealth of lived experience to share.

Jules Lawrence | Founder | Lead Educator

Jules converted from motorbiking to biking in her 30s whilst living in Europe. She has lived experience of diverse cycling cultures and infrastructure around the world. She spent 18 months riding from London to Sydney, but is passionate that anyone can ride a bike and micro-adventures are to be found on our doorstep. She is a qualified cabinetmaker with a penchant for health and safety and rides self built bamboo bikes, folding and cargo bikes in preference to any other transport modes.

Li Ditlef-Nielsen | Partner | Educator

Li is a passionate believer in active transport and has been getting around various cities on 2 wheels since the age of 12. She worked as a cycle messenger in London and undertook maintenance training with Brixton Cycle Co-op in London. She has motivated numerous work colleagues to ditch other forms of transport and commute by bike and advised employers on appropriate end of trip and secure bike parking facilities. An avid tourer, whether it be to go to a festival, camping or across continents. She avoids lycra and enjoys the challenge of carrying cargo, be it cats, cupcakes, or camping gear. Off the bike, her background in health reinforces the benefits of cycling. She is super excited discovering the vast carrying capacity of her new electric cargo bike.

Previous Learner Experiences

The bike maintenance course was the second Pedal Set Go course I have done and was useful, clear and professional. The presenter Li was very genuine and easy to understand and went at a pace that suited the novices in the room. I’d highly recommend any of the PSG courses to anyone with a bike.

Highly recommended! Their bike maintenance course is well designed and covers the necessaries, not overwhelming. The hands-on activities, actual examples, and hand-outs made the concepts clearer and memorable. Our instructor, Li, is fun and knowledgeable. Communications prior to and after the event are also satisfactory. I really hope that more cyclists get the chance to attend the course.

Highly recommend! I did ‘Learn to Ride – 2 hour’ session with Jules. She was very professional, patient, encouraging and fun to learn. I had never ridden a cycle before and am an adult learner. At the end of the two hour session, I was able to balance on the wheel without assistance and she gave me good tips to ride on the roads as well. Big thanks to you Jules. Definitely recommend Pedal Set Go for anyone new to cycling or for a refresher session!! Thank you and I’ll be back here for another ride with your team soon 🙂

Sarojini R.

Very professional, excellent attention to safety, patient, happy to answer questions and provide helpful hints and pleasant and friendly. Highly recommend.

We had a street art bike ride provided by Lane Cove Council with Pedal set go hosting our ride. Both Li and Jules were friendly and professional and we had a great bike ride. We were shown some tips on how to maintain our bikes and had a little Q and A session as well as best practices on how to ride on the road. They made the experience very enjoyable.

I had a fabulous lesson and feel really confident after over 25 years of not riding! Jules is thorough and patient, and it was a really enjoyable lesson! She is also really easy to deal with and very flexible and understanding.

I completed the ‘Confident City Rider’ course with Jules and Liane. The course was educational, professionally run and I felt completely safe on the road at all times. Jules and Liane are great teachers, ensuring I was comfortable and confident in my riding as they guided me from beginning to end. I had so much fun and have adopted new practices which make me a better and safer rider. Highly recommended course.

Pedal Set Go helped me feel safe and confident on the road, now that is a game changer when you live in Sydney! Learning to ride safely and confidently as a woman living in the city is something, I always wanted to be able to do, and it was because of Julie and Li from Pedal Set Go, that dream was realised. A combination of patience, and considered teaching skills, helped me learn there was a place for me on the road. There was also a lot of opportunities to overcome nerves, practice skills, and the teachers were incredibly knowledgeable, and encouraging. In fact it was a lot of fun, exploring parts of Redfern, Surry Hills and on and a second ride Newtown and beyond! I would recommend Pedal Set Go for any level of rider, as living in a big city there sure is a lot to know about riding safely and having fun as a cyclist.

I recently completed the two hour learn to ride session with Jules. As an adult who has never ridden a bike it can be a very daunting experience but Jules was a as fantastic teacher. With easy step by step instructions I was able to feel confident in what I was doing. By the end I was able to stay on the bike – pretty amazing after only two hours. I walked away with the foundational knowledge that will make me feel confident and safe as I continue to practice.

Thanks to Jules for the wonderful lesson! As an adult, I’ve always wanted to learn to ride and couldn’t believe she had me up and riding within 2 hours. She was very patient and encouraging and a wonderful teacher. She also taught me some good safety habits and got me off to a good start in my bike riding life. Thank you!

Tia B.

Both Li and Jules are excellent trainers. Thoroughly enjoyed the rusty riders course run by City of Sydney and UTS. Got a touch up on my rusty riding skills. Happy riding!

I took a private Confident City Rider lesson. I’m an adult beginner and my goal was improving the control skills and learning about riding on the streets. I’ve learned so much in one lesson with Pedal Set Go, starting with fixing errors in my technique and finishing with an actual ride on the streets of North Sydney! The lesson was fun and comprehensive. Jules is an amazing teacher. She explains everything in simple terms and demonstrates all the skills so that it’s very easy to understand and practice. I really appreciate that she also provided me with some awesome cycling maps and information on how to connect with the cycling community. Thanks for all the support and for helping me to get more confident! Would recommend Pedal Set Go to anyone who wants to learn riding safely.

I did a cycling in city course hosted by Jules and Li…they were so good and passionate about cycling and were so attentive towards us…would thoroughly recommend the course.

Enthusiastic instructors and awesome e-bikes creating a fun learning experience. Team had a great day and highly recommend for all experience-level riders

Sebastian T.

The course gave me the confidence to ride anywhere in the city. The safety tips provided by the instructors have been super helpful not just in Australia but also in other countries where I have gone cycling. I can’t recommend this course enough!

I throughly recommend Pedal Set Go for cycling education. I am 46 years old and recently approached Jules regarding a lesson for someone with no experience who was about to embark on a Hunter Valley cycling tour. Jules is competent as a cyclist (as evidenced by her personal achievements) but more than that she is a gentle and persuasive teacher .. in one ebike lesson I learnt good habits with Jules that set me up well for my cycling adventure. Further I feel that I met a very decent human who will now be my go-to for any future cycling skills development I might want to pursue (very likely). I imagine Jules would also be great with kids, and I understand that Pedal Set Go also runs corporate courses too for those looking to cycle to/from work. This is the beginning of a new interest for me and I feel that I have Jules to thank for making me feel that it is possible. Cannot recommend highly enough.

They are exceptional trainers , so good with novice riders like myself to get more confident with riding on the streets. Teach you some great tips on bike maintenance.

Mansi T.

I attended a City of Sydney workshop conducted by Li on basic bicycle maintenance. Li was great & the course was just what I needed for ongoing maintenance of my bike, now that I’ve retired and have more time to do this. Also, I don’t have the money to spend on taking it to a shop for annual maintenance.
Li was an effective communicator & was also hands on with the information using our bikes to go through the main points.
Thanks Annie

Educational and fun course, feel much more confident on the bike, learned safety while on the road, great initiative organised by Randwick City Council to get people back on bikes.

Pedal Set Go team Julie and Li are great educators and bike enthusiasts. They helped me get back on the bike and gave me refresher in riding rules. They’re super capable and friendly. Greatly recommended for kids and adults. I greatly enjoyed my time with them *****.

My 10 year old daughter had a 2 hour beginners private lesson on learning to ride her bike. She gained lots of confidence and tips. Jules was highly engaged and easy to learn from. Highly recommend!

Lily L.

Excellent teachers of effective cycling and building confidence. They were knowledgeable on road rules for cyclists and principles for riding safely. The course was a good mix of theory and drills at the cycling centre and then a few hours training out on the streets down to Prince Alfred Park and back. All along the way, Jules and Liane looked after us with warmth, diligence and enthusiasm, and an overall generosity of spirit.

I did the Bike Care & Maintenance Course today with my family today. Our teacher was Li, and she was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, patient, and happy to take questions (even about bicycle touring). We all enjoyed the course thoroughly and learned a lot – even the kids (who only came along because we thought it was a good idea before we head off on a family bike touring trip!).
